HONOLULU (April 2, 2012) - T&C Surf is stoked to announce the 15th Annual T&C Surf / Surfer MagazineGrom Contest presented by Genki Sushi. Join the T&C ohana May 19-20 at Queen's surf break in Waikiki for a weekend full of surf, fun and sun.

The event gives surfers age 12 and younger the opportunity to compete at one of the South Shore's premier surf breaks. Groms take to the waves at Queen's surf break in the shadow of the legendary Duke Kahanamoku statue at Kuhio Beach. T&C Surf produces the event each year to introduce young surfers to the world of competitive surfing in a less-intense setting. Only surfers age 12 and younger who are not ranked in NSSA or HASA standings are eligible.

"The Grom event is an annual highlight for me," says Craig Sugihara, president and founder of T&C Surf.   "After 40 years in the surf industry, I never tire of seeing the pure stoke on a kid's face when they catch a wave. I've shared this love with my sons and my grandchildren and consider it an honor to bring this contest to many more keiki who love the waves as much as we do."

The contest has grown so popular that T&C Surf added a kokua division last year for keiki ages 3 -6 years old. The division maxed out and organizers expect the same this year. Adults are allowed in the line-up during these heats to help little ones catch waves. It gives the youngest of surfers the opportunity to take part in a contest with some extra support from a grown-up. The addition of a kokua division follows an increase in divisions for girls over the past several years. T&C Surf now offers three age groups for girls in both shortboard and longboard divisions.

The expanded offerings bring parents, uncles, aunties and kids from across the island chain and as far away as Australia to Waikiki Beach for a full weekend at the ocean. The fun kicks off Saturday with preliminary heats in three divisions for boys and girls: shortboard, longboard and bodyboard (schedule is subject to change). Passing the time between heats, kids enjoy beach games and score prizes from their favorite surf brands. Before the sun sets, the top young surfers will advance to the finals on Sunday.

Kids also get stoked about being in the spotlight of Surfer Magazine, title sponsor of the event. "None of Surfer Magazine's partnerships brings us more pride than the T&C Surf/Surfer Magazine Grom Contest," says Jeremy Schluntz, associate publisher of Surfer Magazine.  "We're honored to be part of a contest that is all about fun, family and the love of surfing. The T&C crew puts on a truly unique event for the kids and it's one that we look forward to every year."

Adults can also get in on the fun by signing up for the "FreeSurf Magazine Expression Session" on Sunday afternoon. Grown-ups join keiki in a special adult/child tandem surf event that gives them the opportunity to share the waves family style.

"We are super proud to be invited back to participate in the T&C Surf Grom Contest for the fifth year," says Mike Latronic, publisher of FreeSurf Magazine. "Our Expression Session will once again highlight the special bond that ocean-loving families share. These ohana exemplify that the most precious times in life are those spent together."

The Expression Session is open to all adults and children (under age 5). On-site entry is free (limited to 10 entries) and prizes and trophies are awarded to the top three teams.

The event wraps up with the final heats on Sunday, where the top six in each division receive trophies and prize packs filled with surf products from event sponsors and the opportunity to win one of two custom T&C Surf boards.

The Board Stories film crew will be on-site to capture all the action in the water for a segment on Board Stories TV this summer.

HONOLULU - Before they paddle out to the lineup at Pipeline to start the battle for a world title, more than two dozen top-ranked bodyboarding pros will greet fans at T&C Surf's "Go Big!" at Ala Moana Center Stage on Monday, February 20, 2012.

The 15^th annual event, which serves as the official kick-off for the 2012 International Bodyboarding Association (IBA) Pipe Challenge, lets fans mingle with the pros and gives away tons of bodyboarding gear. The event is free and open to the public.

Top-ranked pros scheduled to attend the event include past champions Ben Player, Jeff Hubbard, Mike Stewart and others.

From 2 - 4 pm T&C Surf will be on stage with live deejays giving away bodyboards, tossing out fins, leashes, board bags and more! Contestants will be called on stage to compete for prizes in a series of off-the-wall games - a tradition at the "Go Big!" every year. Perennial favorites such as "Stack the Wax" and "Towel Changing" are on the agenda, along with some outrageous new games.

The highly anticipated NSSA National Championships took place on June 26 - July 3 in Huntington Beach.

All the best amateur surfers under 18 in the US fought it out all week in Huntington Beach. While the waves were small the groms were smaller, and able to hop their way around the lineup in 1-3 foot surf.

T&C Surf's team rider Kalani David took out the coveted Explorer Boy's title over Josh Monizand Elijah Gates. Kalani also took home the third place trophy in the Men's Open.

The McGill brother and sister duo took big wins at the NSSA Championships. Dax McGill won the Open Girl's and placed fourth in the Explorer Women's and Explorer Girls. While her brother Fin McGill dominated the Explorer Super Groms Division coming out on top and took third in the Explorer Menehune. These siblings have shown the competition what they are made of.

On March 24 the company launched a fundraising partnership with ARC with a mission to donate one-hundred percent of the company's net proceeds in "Malama Japan" T-shirt sales to the relief fund. The first run of shirts sold out online overnight and inventory in Oahu stores wiped out in days. Store staff kept wait lists for weeks to fill customer requests. Representatives of T&C Surf presented the check to the ARC at their Diamond Head offices today.

Along with other local businesses, T&C Surf felt compelled to step up and help in the relief efforts. The company has a special connection with Japan, having done business with countless visitors for 40 years as well as selling products through several business partners.

Adam Borrello, director of international licensing at T&C Surf, says "I travel to Japan regularly to work with our partners and have found Japan's people to be very kind, respectful and caring. I salute our ownership's decision to make this generous donation. Providing this support is the right thing to do, and I know the Japanese would do the same for us."

The "Malama Japan" T-shirt designed by Lani Isherwood, T&C's marketing director features a uniquely island design that incorporates Hawaiian words such as lokahi and kokua block printed in the silhouette of country of Japan. The red dot symbolic of the Japanese flag surrounds the northeast prefectures struck hardest by the earthquake and tsunami. A limited number of shirts are still available online and at the T&C Surf store at Ala Moana Center.

Hawaii's 2010 State Championships wrapped up last weekend at Ala Moana Bowls. Congrats to Dax McGill (12, Sunset Beach), T&C's newest team rider taking first place honors in girls shortboard 11 and under. Placing second in girls 16-17 shortboard was T&C's Alessa Quizon (16, Wai`anae). Bringing home the gold in legends shortboard was Craig Sugihara, founder of T&C Surf Designs.
